How Much Do Ad Agencies Love Young People?

*Obvi that means old people are, uh, well, ah.

“It’s not that you’re… We’re just going in a different direction…”

(I can neither confirm nor deny whether this is a real quote spoken to me.)

It’s not a surprise, and not new. But it’s still kinda stark.

WPP, f’rinstance (the world’s biggest ad agency holding company) skews pretty young in their workforce.

Lots of reasons of course: pay, obsession with youth culture, pay, who’s most willing to work nights & weekends for a pitch, pay, 40-yr slide in profitability for agencies, pay, AI, pay, Le Holding Company business model, pay, old people smell funny, pay.

But: is it bad for agencies? Is it bad for their clients?
